I think everyone will agree that balls are wonderfully useful objects. They come in millions of shapes and sizes, are used in hundreds of different games but their general purpose remains the same;

To keep men and dogs entertained.

It is a well known fact that men and dogs, if not kept properly entertained, tend to cause all sorts of trouble like destroying furniture, urinating in inappropriate places and humping anything that moves. Although they can be, to a degree, house trained, they remain unstable if left alone for long periods without specific instructions. Hence the ball. a spherical or ovoid object, made in early days of animal bladders or leather and stuffed with various other materials. It can be rolled about on the floor, thrown between participants or passed through hoops and goal posts.

The fact that balls have been around since before recorded history tell us that women became proactive early on about keeping men out of mischief. The earliest rubber balls in Europe were introduced by explorers returning from the Americas. These were used in Mesoamerican ball games from as early as 1700 B.C.E. The oldest ball court yet to be discovered was dated at 1400 B.C.E. in the Suconusco coastal lowlands along the Pacific coach.

Many ball player figurines have been found along with evidence that they have been placed with ritual sacrifices suggesting the games were somehow involved in appeasing the gods and combined men's desire for both competition and violence. Similarly, the ancient Greeks used ball games as a means to keep the body supple, but these games were usually left to children while adults pursued games in which participants had a higher than 50% chance of dying. After the popularity of death in sport began to decline, it became more common for adults to play these 'ball games'.

Many different ball games began to emerge through this, using different body parts and sometimes racquets or bats to manipulate the ball. These games have evolved over time to become the polished refined sporting events we see today. Most of these are played on the world stage apart from the U.S.A. which invent their own variations of any game. Combining males' natural competitive nature, love of speed and violence and their fascination with balls any activity related balls can keep them occupied for days, weeks even months on end .
