Facebook MAKES 12 year Old Post Explicit Pictures of Herself, Northern Irish Father Sues!
The Northern Irish man contends that Facebook, tricked him by way of distraction and prevented him from supervising his child's web activity by making him play Farmville and other time consuming games. The father also contends that Facebook also taught his child how to apply excessive make up and gave her advice on provocative poses that would make her look older, offering her step by step guidance.
According to Charmichael (Father's lawyer), the photos in question were “sexually explicit,” and showed the girl “heavily made-up,” and “in a provocative pose,” which made her appear “much older than her 12 years.”
Charmichael went on to argue that if his daughter opened the door to a stranger, then the door maker should be guilty of negligence and putting his child in harms way therefore, in this case Facebook also should be responsible?
OK OK OK...I have had my fun............
Feel free to read the real story HERE. The summary is that a man from Northern Ireland is suing Facebook because his daughter 12, was able to create an account and post "sexy" pictures of herself. The argument is that Facebook's age verification process makes it it too easy for this kind of thing to happen.
The fact is the internet is a dangerous place, and that is a fact we as adults all know. With child predators and porn sites abounding, you have to keep an eye on everything children are clicking on and educate them on the potential dangers out there. This father is embarrassed because he failed to ensure the safety of his daughter and is looking for someone to blame. Online organizations can only do so much in the way of verifying age. Unless people want online organizations to require more invasion information to identify age like:
A) Copies of Government issued ID...
B) A tax ID number, or SS Number...
B) Blood, hair or urine for DNA analysis...
....then they better man up and actually parent their children. You can easily install parental control software on computers these days or programs that record surfer history. You can also restrict children's computer usage to visible areas of the house and only at certain times of the day etc... These measures may work well but occasionally they may fail which is why it's important to educate kids and let them know that when they get a message from ANdysDongisLong86, no matter how much he tells you he loves you, you need to click the big red X and tell your parents immediately.
Is this Facebook's fault....leave a comment below!
