Shocking Video Released in Dedman/Anderson Mississippi Hate Crime!

In Jackson, Mississippi racism and hate crime is back in season. Deryl Dedmon (18) and John Aaron Rice (18) and 5 other individuals got up one night with the intention of finding a black man to "mess with" after a raging all-night party. They found James Anderson, a 49-year-old African-American, who they proceeded to brutally beat and eventually run over with a pick-up truck, ultimately killing him. One of the teenagers yelled "white power" after the assault, according to a hotel worker who saw the attack. Dedmon had two teenage girls in the car with him at the time, one of which testified that the incident was an accident and that Dedmon tried to go around Anderson. She later changed her story, presumably in light of the realization that the incident was caught on a surveillance camera perched on a nearby building.
After the incident, the teens convened at McDonalds for snacks and at some point Dedmon had the gumption to call his friend up and tell him about his achievements. "I just ran that nigga over," Dedmon is reported to have said. Both teenagers were initially charged with murder in Anderson's death. Later a judge reduced the charge against Rice to simple assault. His mother contacted police claiming her son was not in the vehicle that ran Anderson over and is therefore "innocent" as she described it. Neither Dedmon or Rice have entered a plea. A Mississippi prosecutor is expected this month to try and convince a grand jury to indict two white teenagers on hate crime related charges.

Hate crimes still happen and racism is very much an attitude and mentality in the hearts and minds of many people. I have known this to be true and such stories are being swept under the rug while we marvel at what Kim Kardashian is wearing on some fashion runway somewhere. This story happened some time ago and didn't get the attention it deserved. A group of white people got up, directed hate specifically towards a black person and actually continued to assualt and kill him. Some were directly involved in the black man's assualt and murder and others did absolutely nothing to prevent it. While this is an extreme manifestation of racism and hate, the fact that it still happens is disturbing and the fact that such a degree of hate can be stewing in the hearts of youth is even more so. Aren't the youth growing up in an ever more blended, cosmopolitan culture, aren't they supposed to be more tolerant, less racist, less hateful? What ever the case may be.....I am uncomfortably disturbed.
