I am a feminist. Staunch and proud. I grew up in a family of four sisters and we were never treated like delicate girls. We were, for the most part, tomboys. We had Barbies and dolls houses but spent equal, if not more, time running around climbing trees, making mud baths and physically fighting with each other. We all grew up strong minded, strong-willed, independent and, as I thought, feminists. Not so. Two of my sisters have rejected the term and they are two of the strongest, ballsiest women I know.

I know feminism has had a bad rep. I’ve met my fair share of feminist militants who seem to be channeling the rage of every oppressed woman that has ever lived in the history of mankind. But I’ve also met radical defenders of gay rights and racial equality and I still agree with those movements.

Feminists and their Bad Rap....
Google has defined feminism as this: The advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.

And a feminist as: A person who supports feminism.

So if you are a woman who believes you have a right to vote for the leader of your country, get a job and be paid for that job based on your ability, qualifications and experience, regardless of the fact that you have a pair of tits or whatever you think it is that makes you a woman you are a feminist.

If you are a man who believes your mothers, sisters, wives or daughters have these rights you are a feminist too.

If you don’t believe woman have these rights, get the f@ck into the 21st century and watch us be and continue to be leaders of powerful countries (Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany; Pratibha Patil, President of India) political activists (Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma; Tawakkul Karman, Yemen),scientists (Jane Goodall, famous for her work with chimpanzees; Ada Yonath, Nobel Laureate for Chemistry), CEO’s (Indra Nooyi, Pepsico; Ginni Rometty, IBM),spiritual leaders, explorers, lawyers, doctors, teachers, engineers, accountants, police officers, fire fighters, soldiers and many others professions often while continuing to be primary caregivers to our families.
