France's World Cup soccer team provided entertainment for soccer lovers while bringing disgrace to France as a nation. The squad of "foolhardy brats" performed poorly on the pitch and their antics off the pitch were equally catastrophic.

" Va te faire foutre sale fils de pute" roughly translated as "go f*** yourself you son of a b****" were the last words to come out of Nikolas Anelka's mouth before he was banished from the French team and dispatched back to France via economy class. His expulsion caused a mutiny led by "Captain" Patrice Evra and resulted in the entire squad refusing to practice during the tournament and ultimately a very entertaining team implosion.

Nikolas Anelka, the catalyst to the French team's World Cup 2010 implosion.

My Mom has an interesting theory about soccer:

The number of black dudes in your team is inversely proportional to how successful it will be.

Specifically, her theory is that you can only have a maximum of 3 to 4 black people on a soccer team before it begins to exponentially fall apart with the addition of subsequent blacks. I brushed it aside, till her theory came to fruition in 1999-00 when Wimbledon, her sample group, were relegated from the English Premier League never to be heard of again ~ black people count = 6 (Also see: Chelsea FC). Then she extended the theory to explain why African teams are always under performing despite an abundance of talent and athleticism.

Nigeria's Yakubu has an open goal but somehow his blackness prevents him from scoring.

Apparently, top management in the French national team setup have taken the same view as my mom and decided that the deplorable state of French soccer can be attributed to an excess of black and Arab players in the squad. The French Football Federation has begun an inquiry into claims that national team coach Laurent Blanc and other coaches secretly agreed on a quota restricting the number of black and Arab players in training programs. A plan to limit to 30% the number of players of African and North-African descent in national training academies once they reach the age of 13.

"For the top brass in French football, the issue is settled: there are too many blacks, too many Arabs, and not enough white players in French football," website Mediapart reported."

A fine plan by my mum's standards, but a controversial one at best which seems to highlight the racial divide in France even at the highest of levels. Such an idea paints France as a country that doesn't view each citizen in equal regard, violating a unity which soccer as a sport has historically provided. Personally, I just think it's a stupid, racist plan and I am glad it was sniffed out early and the potential careers of skilled youth preserved.
