The most entertaining thing on the planet is listening to people erroneously trying to guess the geographic location of where I am from. Guesses as to the location of Zambia vary greatly. On occasion, they have rendered me Central American or South American and in extreme cases even Asian? I'll give you an example.
The following conversation happened 2 months ago. Names have been withheld to protect the ignorant:
American: Hey, you have an accent, where are you from?
Me: Zambia...
American: Oh sweet man, that's near Haiti right?
Me: No....not really.
American: Oh damn my bad. Is it in the Caribbean or something?
Me: I guess if you take away the Atlantic Ocean, shift everything to the left a few thousand miles and change the continent you'll be spot on....
TO THE MAP WE GO!!!!!!!
My co-writer, Sparklingjem, doesn't believe in listening to news. She would sooner be swept away by a 23 foot tsunami, blown across 5 states by a Tornado and land on the epicenter of an earthquake before she'd have knowledge that any of those events were going on.
However, in this technological age, there is no excuse for ignorance. There are about a million apps out there so get at least one useful one. That way when you are done with "Angry Birds" you can quickly check if there is a cyclone near you. "Appazine" a brand new iPad app that explores globally relevant topics on a monthly basis is a very useful tool. Besides articles, audio and video, the app has inter-active elements which include panoramic photography, 3D digital animation, creative morphing, rubbing and X-Ray lens views. So there is officially NO EXCUSE to not know stuff anymore! If you have an i-pad, go ahead and download the "appazine" app and foreigners will stop laughing at your ridiculous answers.
Don't have an i-pad? You can win one (complete with the collection App free for the remainder of the year!). tweet to enter . All you need to do to enter is send a tweet with the following message: "Stay up-to-date with current events by using #thecollection iPad App"
Current Events? Man, who needs those anyway? |
